Music 2.0 Companies

Yeah, I don't really know what "Music 2.0" is supposed to mean either, but I've compiled a list of companies that I've come across the are doing something interesting with music online. Some are subscription services with APIs that make syndication easy, others are informational sites, a handful are social networks (some arguably not really music-centric), a few are search engines, and some are recommendation engines.... and at least a couple, I'm guessing, are probably not legal.

Feel free to comment an add to the list. I've highlighted some of my personal favorites, and ones that I use with some regularity. In no particular order....

Hi J,

My name is Rachel and I'm part of the MusicIP Team; very comprehensive list! Thanks for the mention, and I'd love to hear from you if you give the MusicIP Mixer a try. I also noticed that you have FIQL highlighted as a favorite; we work with them as well, so there's some fun things you can do with FIQL, MusicIP Mixer and your music collection.

Rachel, thanks for visiting. I have used MusicIP (when it was still called Predixis) as integrated with Winamp. Haven't played with it much recently, but I will try it out again.

Hi,

you could add to the list Foafing the Music.

It uses third party services such as:
iTunes, Amazon, upcoming.org, eventful.com, Google Maps, rateyourmusic.com, pitchformedia.com, and thousands of MP3-weblogs and Podcasts related sites.

Enjoy!

Cheers, Oscar.

Jason,

Greetings - When you have a moment, please consider adding www.ArtistServer.com to your list.

While you haven't listed a 'music 2.0' definition in your post, I think you'll find ArtistServer.com is a music focused social media site with many great features.

ArtistServer has 18,000+ registered artists and members, 6,300 songs, and a staff of one.

Thanks for the list... bookmarked!

hi! Please include WikiMusicGuide-The Free Music Guide in the list. It is wiki-based site wherein the contents are contributed and collaborated by the music lovers all over the world as well as artists and bands of various genres themselves. Thanks a ton!

Check out the directory I've started - and feel free to add as much information about each company/service that you guys want.

That's an excellent inventory. I did a piece of work on Jamendo earlier in 2006 and I think you've done a great job here. There's so much going on in this space; it's fascinating.

If you speak French, there's a professor at Celsa in Paris who studies music 2.0 and content industries. His name is Alban Martin and his blog can be found on http://cocreation.blogs.com/ and the slides from his classes are available on http://www.slideshare.net/alban/cours-numero-3-celsa-a-martin-et-e-vivier/

Enjoy.

J,

Check out the latest from http://www.grammyradio.com

It's syndicated by iBloks http://www.ibloks.com. The same team that made MongoMusic (The first music search service, years ahead of Pandora (1998)).

Here's a sample:

not sure where it fits but you could add heardontv.com to the list. It's a site about music in tv shows, it's how I discover new music these days :)
