Out of those above, I've got to say that right now Manchester Orchestra may take the top spot for me this year. Here they are performing "Wolves at Night" on Letterman:
And in honor of my post about Imeem the other day, a playlist of the "best of the best".
And there are still some gems that I listen to a lot from last year's best-of list.
I'm with you on Okkervil River, but besides them and Arcade Fire, I'm not familiar with any of the other bands. I guess I need to stop listening to so many LPs from the 50s and 60s, eh? ;)
Besides Okkervil River, the 'new' music I've been listening to the most has been Joanna Newsom, Tom Waits (all of his stuff), ummm...and some others I can't think of because I haven't moved all of my music to my new MBP.
glad to see ryan on there, the sun also sets and halloweenhead were two of my top 10 fav songs from the year (I stopped doing top 10 records a while back)I don;t thnk he gets a fair shake anymore becuase of his antics, but the man still has so much talent.
sad to not see spoon or of montreal on this list, those were the two best records put of this year.
the band of horses was as disappointing as radiohead and wilco (which were all snooze fests.)
Yeah, I know everyone loves the Spoon album, but for some reason I never really listened to it. My brother-in-law is actually an Art Professor and one of the guys (not sure which one) is in one of his classes at University of Texas. I'll finally get off my ass and get it... I think my eMusic refresh date is in the next couple of days.
